On the 3rd August 2020 the All Party Parliamentary Group for Dyspraxia announced they were inviting members of the public to submit evidence surrounding their experiences as dyspraxic adults, parents/relations of dyspraxics and professionals who work with dyspraxics .
An All Party Parliamentary Group (APPG) is the name given to a group of MPs from all political parties who meet to discuss, debate and hear evidence on a particular subject or cause.
The APPG for Dyspraxia was set up in 2019 but was disbanded in December 2019 when the general election was called. This is something that happens to all APPGs when an election season begin. The group was re-registered in 2020 abut it has yet to sit and discuss anything.
THE CALL FOR EVIDENCE
Members of the public have until 17:00 on Friday 28 August to submit their evidence. We strongly believe that the experiences (good and bad) of adult dyspraxics need to be heard so that the APPG members learn the realities of the situation facing dyspraxics in the UK today and learn what they have experienced in the past . The APPG provides an opportunity for your stories and experiences to be listened to and be considered in a formal setting with political legitimacy .
We are acutely aware that writing an email telling your experiences can be rather daunting. Where do I start? What do I include? How do I structure it? Will they read it? Will they listen to me? For some dyspraxics this could be the first chance to really share their experiences and that’s a lot of pressure. Here is a link to the APPG press release which explains that you can write to NASEN (the APPG secretariat – who administrate it) if you would like to submit your evidence through a different means.
For those who would like to submit evidence, we have created an email template. This is just to give you an idea of what you could include and how you could structure it. You are more than welcome to use the template as it is and fill it in with your evidence, or you can delete bits of the template or delete the whole template entirely and write it entirely yourself. It is 100% your choice. This template is for those who may feel anxious about writing the letter and anxious about how to start and structure it. Please do not include anything that you do not want to.
The template below is simply a suggestion and some bits might not be appropriate to you..Please do not feel obligated to give any information you an uncomfortable giving. Remember the sub-heading categories in the template are only suggestions.
